Carmen and her husband farm alongside their two sons and their families just south of the Battle River near Galahad. Between all of the families they farm about 5000 acres of cropland and grassland. WOOLgathering is a true Cottage Industry, in that all of the processes are done by hand, in the Felzien farm yard, centered out of a 1910 Prairie Homestead house that Carmen herself restored in 2020. Her objective with the restoration was to keep the house as true to original as possible, and she is thrilled with how it all turned out. She now has an amazing place to go to work each day! The best part of her job is when she can engage with her grandchildren in the workings of WOOLgathering's operations. Carmen's grandchildren love to work alongside her as she skirts and sorts raw fleece, then dips the fleece into 20 gallon tubs of cold water to begin the washing process. Carmen along with her husband, are learning to work the 1930's MadeWell Drum Carder (her husband's Grandma's) and are beginning to understand the mechanics of her assortment of spinning wheels. Carmen and her husband enjoy making Orthopedic Dog Beds, she truly cannot think of anything she'd would rather be doing!
