In 2020 Katya started making candles. This grew to a fun hobby during the pandemic, then into a passion that grew into a business. Three years later she lost one of the most influential people in her life; her grandmother. During this time she decided to close the doors to her business. Almost a year later, Katya and her were ready for a fresh start in life. They both started new jobs, packed their dogs and belongings and headed to Alberta from Ontario. After three days of driving they found themselves pulling off HWY 13 and into Sedgewick. It’s almost been a year since that day and Katya couldn’t imagine her life being anywhere else. She has embodied the culture of rural Alberta, found peace in the community and quiet of a small town, and her spirits have been uplifted. This is a feeling she wishes everyone could be able to experience, or re-experience all over again. That is when Western Scents was created. No matter what room a candle is lit within, it can change the atmosphere. Katya wanted to create a product that can recreate an ambiance of peace to the homes of others, or awaken and uplift one’s spirit all while paying tribute to the place that brought this feeling to her.
