Mid-Covid in the summer of 2020 Breann lost her full-time job and began trying to work with an online blog doing social media marketing. In this role, she came across many makers that made unique products across the globe. This led to her deciding she wanted to make candles in a unique container that wasn’t your generic jar. Breann did a lot of research to try and figure out what wax would be the best to use. Her allergies and asthma were a big concern and she wanted to be able to use her own products. This is why Breann chose to use Beeswax; it helps to purify the air by pulling out dust and allergens as it burns. Then, her concern turned to her animals, and she researched what would be best for scenting the candles. Breann found out that fragrance oil was safer to burn when there are animals in the home, and it has a lower chance of affecting their airways when compared to essential oils. Breann came up with idea of using teacups as the candle containers when she was on her 4th or 5th trip to the Missions Thrift Store in Red Deer. Every visit, she found teacups lining the shelves in the houseware department and the inventory was barely touched. She loved the cups but had no use for them as they were. That’s when she realized that these cups would be perfect to repurpose and upcycle into teacups. In September 2020, Breann officially launched Candle Tea with her first ever unscented candle. Her husband, Ashton, has since come along side her to make it a husband-and-wife team running the show. Today, Candle Tea has expanded into offering teacup candles, tealights, wax melts and custom orders with many different scents to choose from.
